Nobody wants their family members to come home to a dusty old living space. While this house had great character, it was in need of an update. The homeowners really wanted to open this space up and make it HGTV worthy.
One of the first things we did after demo was remove a large wall separating the kitchen and dining room. This opened the entire space up. They also wanted their laundry room upstairs by the kitchen. Their old laundry room was tucked deep in the unfinished basement. Not only was this hard to reach as they get older, but nobody wants to carry their clothes down to a dark, cold basement.
As the homeowners picked out their cabinets and countertops, they wanted their kitchen to feel clean and sharp, but also down-to-earth. So, they chose dark cabinets to make the kitchen feel cozier, and bright countertops with a sparkle in them to brighten it up. A few other notable accents are the lights in the glass upper cabinets and the reused trim above the old door to keep some character and continuity with the rest of the house.
As you can see from the shiplap and farm sink, they wanted a farmhouse feel. They also added some colorful cow-themed decor to give the space some personality.
